Quick Steamed Broccoli

Steamed Broccoli.....without the fancy steps.

Okay so maybe a steamer isn't so super fancy but for a college kid it is. So I researched a way a few years ago to get restaurant (or at least to a college student) quality broccoli and no I'm not a college student now, but who doesn't want to cut corners now a days....especially when it means cutting time. So, please....let me share one of my favorite cooking short cuts!

Needed:
1lb of Broccoli
2 tbsp of water
Microwave safe bowl......trust me, this one is important

Break the broccoli up (if you bought a head of broccoli, if you just bought a bag at the store, this step is already done). Place the broccoli in the microwave safe bowl (picture to the left). Add 2 tbsp of water. Cover the broccoli with a paper towel so that the edges tuck in the bowl around the broccoli (picture to the right). Microwave in 2-3 minutes. BAM! Steamed broccoli!!

To spice up your broccoli is so simple, and it doesn't take much. In the picture below, I just added non fat mozzarella cheese. However something also quick to do is saute some garlic in olive oil and toss in the broccoli after its cooked, then sprinkle some bread comes over it when you're done!

Nutrtrional benefits of broccoli? Easy! About a pound of broccoli has 98 calories and less than 1g of fat! Not to mention the 20g of the GOOD carbs, 7g of protein and its also packed with Vitamin C and A.

Feast on my broccoli lovers.....feast on!
